Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD

Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD!
Why would you have the day of the LORD?
It is darkness, and not light,
as if a man fled from a lion,
and a bear met him,
or went into the house and leaned his hand against the wall,
and a serpent bit him.
(Amos 5:18-19 ESV)

The above passage says, the Day of Judgement will like a man who fled from a lion and a bear met him. And a man who went into the house and leaned his hand against the wall, and a serpent bit him.

It is so, because the sinner dies a physical death, which in itself is a horrible thing to go through, full of misery and pain. Yet physical death will not the end of his misery. He will face the judgement of God, and die the spiritual death, forever. He will rise from the dead, like the righteous. Perhaps for a slight moment the sinner will think that he has fled from the lion. But in his resurrected body he will stand before Jesus Christ and be sentenced to eternal death for his sin. He will be thrown into the lake of fire, in his own body, to suffer eternal agony and pain in the Lake of Fire.

The only way to escape this fate, is to put our trust in Jesus and to live the life of repentance while on this earth.
