Dying with Christ every day

Numbers 28:1-4 (KJV)
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, [2] Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, My offering, and my bread for my sacrifices made by fire, for a sweet savour unto me, shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season. [3] And thou shalt say unto them, This is the offering made by fire which ye shall offer unto the Lord ; two lambs of the first year without spot day by day, for a continual burnt offering. [4] The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb shalt thou offer at even;

God's word comes unto Moses even after He commands him to hand over his position to Joshua. These are the commandments that are to be kept when they enter into the land of Canaan. God reminds these different offerings again to emphasize their importance.

In their due season. Law-keeping has a lot to do with observing the different days, weeks, months and years. You will find this in all the religions of the world. They need to do certain things on certain days and keep certain rituals. But the Gospel has no regard for certain days. To us it is EVERY DAY. TODAY is the day of salvation. As it is written:
2 Corinthians 6:2 (KJV)
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

The Gospel must be believed NOW. There is no certain days, nor any rituals to be performed. We must believe the Gospel now, and today, and every day. Let us not be mindful of days nor seasons, as though they are of any importance. For us Christians there is only one day we have in mind, it is the Day of Judgment. We ought to live for this Day, everything we do for acceptance on this Day through faith.

But as with all commandments, these laws testify of Jesus Christ. First of the commandments, two lambs which are to be offered, one in the morning, one at even. We are reminded of Christ's sacrifice which was offered only once, satisfying God's wrath, justice and holiness forever. One sacrifice of Jesus ordained from the foundation of the world was enough to please God, and to show grace and forgiveness to anyone who believes in Christ. How inadequate was the sacrifices of the old testament, that there had to be sacrifice everyday twice a day. Christ's sacrifice lasts from beginning of the world to the end of the world. Consider the object of sacrifice. Blood of an animal cannot atone the sin of a human being. It had to be a man, and it had to be a sinless man. Even if it was a man, the man would only satisfy perhaps the sin of one person. But the object of the offering of Calvary was the Son of God who was made a man. This offering was satisfactory, one sacrifice, satisfactory for all the sins for whom He died for.

It was a continual burnt offering. We remember again the suffering of Jesus Christ. Once was enough to appease God's eternal wrath. What Christ suffered was equivalent to what I would suffer in Hell forever. And God's only Son, suffering the wrath of His own Father, that He may forgive. This is God's plan of salvation. God had a wonderful plan to SAVE our lives. He doesn't necessarily have a wonderful plan FOR our lives. He only had the one plan for us, and it was carried out perfectly by His Son.

Jesus Christ is satisfies this law by being both the lamb of the morning and the lamb of the evening. Christ satisfied God's righteousness by living a perfectly righteous and holy. Never once did He do wrong, and ALWAYS He performed what is good. He also satisfied God's righteousness by dying the death for sinners. He became sin on the cross, that we may become the righteousness of God through Christ. Remember when Christ mentioned:
John 9:4 (KJV)
I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

Christ knew the night was coming when only His death work was remaining. While it was day, He performed all His day work, as He says:
John 17:4 (KJV)
I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

But there was still one more work remaining for Christ. It was to satisfy God's justice by experiencing the wrath of God for us. This was what He did as the Lamb offering of the evening. Let us worship this Christ.

But here is something we learn from this law. Christ cannot die anymore, for He has died once, and death no more has hold of Him. It is WE who are to die every day:
1 Corinthians 15:31 (KJV)
I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

We are to die with Christ every morning, by faith, dying with Him to sin and to self-righteousness and to the world. We die with Him every night before we go to bed. We do this, by grace, by reckoning ourselves crucified with Him. We are to also reckon ourselves alive to God through Christ Jesus.
Let us also day and night put our trust in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Let us confess and renounce our sins everyday, and receive cleansing by the blood of Christ and the forgiveness of God. This is to be the continual offering of faith every day, pleasing to God.

We are also to offer our bodies as a holy and living sacrifice every day. God receives spotless offerings. Holiness must be our daily pursuit and desire. We don't do this to be saved, but because we are saved, and we do this by faith in God. There is suffering in such pursuit, hence we must be offered a sacrifice by fire. Let us hold on to this promise, that though we go through fire, we will not be consumed. We will be refined as gold. Suffering will make us more Christ-like:
Isaiah 43:2 (KJV)
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
